The meaning of Christmas.....

I get very excited when Thanksgiving comes because it is usually met with a visit with family and then I also get to set up ALL the Christmas decorations. I find that I don't seem to get into the Christmas spirit until the tree is up and there is stuff everywhere. The stores start Christmas way too early. I went to find Jack's Halloween costume this year next to a tree skirt. No kidding! I was so aggravated!
Poor Thanksgiving gets NO love at all. I guess most people dont decorate or give gifts for Thanksgiving so retail skips right over that.
I do love getting Christmas cards and letters to see how everyone has changed over the year and the fun that everyone has had. But that too sometimes gets to be a contest in I did way more than you did this year. I don't write a Christmas letter
for a couple reasons. The first is I don't feel that I am good at getting thoughts
from my brain onto paper and then also I feel that my life (although I do love it)
can be a bit BORING. We do send a picture card with a little message.
With all that is going on in the world I find that the true meaning of Christmas has
been lost in telling our own message through this is what I did and look what I bought..... Let's remember that we all have so many things to be thankful for and take a little time to pray and do a good deed for those who don't have as much to be thankful for.

6 Random things about me

Thanks Jen!
I think about blogging quite a bit but never seem to get it done.
So here goes
*I like to put things off until the last moment. Like on weekends I save my cleaning
and stuff for Sunday evening. I get tons of stuff done between 6 pm and 9 pm then
go to bed exhausted with a sense of accomplishment.
*I do not like COFFEE or the smell of coffee. I go Starbucks only for hot chocolate.
*I have a slight obsession with reality tv; I love The Hills, Sunset Tan, Real World, and most shows on Bravo.
*I limit most outfits to 3 colors at once. I dont really know why but I have done that since college and have stuck with it.
*I shower 2-3 times a day. A shower makes me feel refreshed.
*My car is always dirty. It has an overlived in look to it. I keep saying that I need to clean it but never really do. I am writing down here now that I will clean my car tomorrow night.
I just reread this and I didnt realize how crazy I sound. Wow! Was this supposed to be a realization of craziness technique because I think it worked.

As far as other things I should blog about. I started a new job as a preschool teacher and I LOVE it! I really have a job that I like and am excited to go to. How weird is that. Yes some days are way better than others but that is how life is.

Jack is now 3! Holy cow! He started preschool as well and likes it a lot. He is riding a big boy bike with training wheels and loves dinosaurs. Sometimes I feel as though he doesnt need us anymore and then other times he reminds me of how he really does. He is a great kid!

Football season has begun so Cory is extremely excited! I dread it a little but as we always have in the past we will all survive.

I will try to post more often and get some recent pictures up very soon.

Take care
Darcy

So we have been working on potty training with Jack over the last few weeks
and we have made some progress. (Knock on wood) Today we went to the pet store for
a fish. The deal made between us was that if Jack went in the big boy potty 10 times
he could go to the pet store a pick out a fish. Well Last night at Uncle Biggs house
he went potty in the big boy potty which made 10 times. So Yeahooo we were off to the pet store today. We got a red Betta fish named "Dory" (thanks Sarah cause I dont
think that "Purple" is quite the name the fish needed) Our intention was a small goldfish but after talking to the pet store person we settled on a Betta and $35 later we were on our way home to make a fantastic new home for our little "Dory."
I am a little afraid however that there will be a crash or un explained amount of food in her bowl before the end of this since Jack has learned to get things on his own now. He pushes the stool over to the cupboard and tries to get snacks and cups for milk so who knows what he might think the fish needs.

So I am a procastinator and this blog shows it. I always think there
are more hours in the day than there are and the hours I have I don't
use very effectively. But I am working on that among many other things
this year.
Just a quick update on our family. We took a trip to see Mickey Mouse in early
December and it was wonderful. We did The Magic Kingdom on the first night
and then back the next day, then we took a day to relax at the resort and swim,
and the last day was spent at SeaWorld. When we left Florida it was 82 degrees and it was 32 degrees here in Omaha. That took a little getting used to. Jack is a
good traveler so I am sure there will be other trips in the future.
Christmas brought a nice visit from Gramma Karen. She stayed for about a week
and we all enjoyed having her here. Santa brought Jack a big Tonka truck and the
Wizard of Oz DVD. The child loves the movie. He even sings his own version of "We're
off to see the Wizard" (Very cute)
This month has been pretty boring. We did try a weekend potty training bootcamp
We laid some plastic down and set the timer and had Jack sit on the potty every 30 minutes. We had a little success but not a lot since then. I don't want to push him
but I also feel he is pretty ready. Secretly I hope he wakes up one day and doesn't
like diapers anymore but realistically I just don't think that will happen. So we will continue on our quest.
I hope to post some pictures very soon. Have a great week!
